This is a common question that we get asked so we thought we would do up a quick guide on how to use an OBD2 scan tool with bluetooth. The best thing about these tools as that they are offer great value for their price and are easy to use. It is important to note that these bluetooth devices will only work with Android mobile phones and tablets and will not work with apple products.
Step 1 : Buy an OBD2 bluetooth scan tool. (Like our one here)
Step 2: Download the app that you would like to use from the Play Store on your android device. I would suggest Torque Lite to get you started.
Step 3: Plug into your OBD2 scan tool into the cars OBD2 port. Most likely this will be under steering wheel somewhere. Turn you cars ignition on until all the dash lights come on.
Step 4: Turn on your phone and go to your bluetooth settings and search for the OBD2 device. Most likely it will be called OBD something. If it asked for a password enter in “1234” or “0000”. Once this has connected successfully you can go back to your phones home screen.
Step 5: Open up your OBD2 app on your phone. If it is Torque make sure you got to settings and click on OBD2 adaptor and make sure it is set to bluetooth connection and not wifi. It should connect to your car and you will be able to see live data and faults etc.
Step 6: You can turn your car on now and go for a drive if you want to test on the gauges etc.
Hopefully this has been of some help to you!
